Team Rector Announcement

We are delighted to announce that the Revd David Halliwell is the next Team Rector of St Luke in the City Team and Priest in Charge of Toxteth St Margaret. Thank you to everyone who has been involved in this discernment process.

The Area Dean for Toxteth and Wavertree and Associate Archdeacon of Liverpool Revd Dr Robert Clack said,

'We are delighted to have David appointed to the deanery of Toxteth and Wavertree as the Rector of St Luke in the City. It is an important post holding together such variety and diversity across the city and has recently been joined with St Margaret of Antioch. David proved to the patrons and parish representatives that he is not only capable but has a pastoral heart for this ministry and a prayerful disposition. He now completes the team of clergy with support from the vicar, curate and self supporting/retired clergy who have worked so hard during the vacancy.'

When accepting the position the Revd David Halliwell said,

‘I am humbled to have been chosen to come and serve alongside a great team. I am excited for what the future will hold. Whatever the next steps are for St Margaret’s and St Luke in the City it will be a privilege to walk the path with you.’

We will be in touch in the next few weeks with news of David's Service of Institution but please do keep him in your prayers during this time of transition.

David's message to the Parish:

I’m David, and through God’s grace, and the prayers and discerning of friends, I am excited to be joining your family in the coming months. As the announcement has been made this Sunday, I wanted to share a little about me.

I’m originally from Wigan (but don’t hold that against me), and although I’ve lived and worked in a number of different places in the UK, the north west is definitely home for me. I’ve had a variety of different jobs before I was ordained, including working for the BBC and several management roles. At the moment my household is just me.

Having been totally blind since aged ten, I see the world differently, and this has fuelled my passion for inclusion and equality of access for everyone. This is true for my faith journey too – we are all equal and loved by God. Please be assured of my prayers in the weeks ahead, as we begin to work together.
Yours in love and faith,

David
