Blessings for same-sex couples following a civil marriage or civil partnership
Our Church Council met this week and reflected on the House of Bishop’s Living in Love and Faith Pastoral Guidance on offering blessings to same-sex couples following a civil marriage or civil partnership.
The council joyfully and unanimously adopted the following resolution to pray God’s blessing with couples:
“The St Luke in the City Team Ministry is a committed member of the Inclusive Church Network. This PCC rejoices in the presence and contribution of LGBT+ people in the life of our parish. The relationships of LGBT+ people are gifts from God and we long for the day when we can solemnise same-sex marriages.
Until that day comes, we will gladly share what is possible and joyfully offer the Prayers of Love and Faith to couples who come to our churches to seek God’s blessing on their relationship. In addition, we will support the clergy of our parish and opt-in to offer services for same-sex couples when the House of Bishops takes the necessary steps and the trial period opens.”
We continue to long for the day when we solemnise the marriages of same-sex couples and will actively work to see that day come to pass.
