In times of intense social upheaval and uncertainty, churches are often tempted by instant remedies for ailing performance, recipes for success and other escapist strategies. They seem to offer a way of sidestepping issues that present obstacles to growth, or challenges even suggesting Christianity will struggle to survive in the future. Martyn Percy – an activist, theologian and priest – invites us to relocate our Christian thinking, language and living, and recover the authentic values of the kingdom of God that can re-found the church. The church cannot be re-imagined if it has still not been discovered.
