Prayer for International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia 2025

International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia is marked every year on May 17.

IDAHOBIT fosters a global moment for collective action, awareness, solidarity, and visibility, bringing together individuals, organisations, and governments under a shared global theme to highlight issues faced by LGBTQIA+ people around the world. This year's theme is 'the power of communities'.

To mark this day we’re sharing below a prayer written by our LGBTQIA+ Ministry Facilitator, Warren Hartley. We’re also re-sharing a Sermon from Open Table Liverpool for IDAHOTB in 2019, and this blog from Kieran Bohan, Director of Open Table Network.

Visit the May 17 website for details of events across the world https://may17.org/

God we give you thanks for the diversity of life
inherent in your creation and
within each and every last one us, wonderfully made in your image.
This International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia
we give you thanks for your Rainbow Children;
your children who are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer/Question, Intersex, Asexual and more
who reflect your love in their lives and relationships.
Your love transcends our labels and divisions
creating one humanity from a stunning diversity.
May we always be ready to recognise you
in every person we see before us.
We ask this through Jesus, love made manifest.
Amen.
