Pilgrim Journey Along St Cuthbert's Way

pilgrimage 1.jpg

Twenty one members of St Bride’s (including friends) have recently returned from walking as pilgrims together along part of St Cuthbert’s Way in Northumberland, ending on the island of Lindisfarne. This was a wonderful experience!

There is something poignant about walking an ancient pilgrim route, but I guess more important still is the opportunity that walking together in community offers for the deepening inner spiritual journey both individually and as a community. Along the way there was much fun, laughter, conversation, song, dance, debate, some tears, the simple sharing of bread as an act of spiritual nourishment – and of course much beauty. Especially wonderful were times of chant, prayer and deep sharing as we sat in a circle in the tepee at our base. There were also some aches and pains and a few blisters, insect bites – but actually it was surprisingly trouble free. My first aid kit was only needed once!

Personally I was spiritually inspired by the occasion. I had some insight into the spiritual alignment of the heart which seems important to me. Even more significant, you can feel the deepening that has taken place on behalf of the whole of the St Bride’s Church community (and friends!).

Can’t wait for the next one!

Meanwhile just a few pictures.
