The Soul in the Machine

We are more than bodies to be fed to a machine. We are made for more than work. We have souls, we have spirits and somewhere in this dead city there must be a place for those things
— George Williams, YMCA founder

The Soul in the Machine is a play about the early life of George Williams, YMCA founder.

You will be transported to Victorian London, where the young George Williams has come to find his place in the world.

Appalled by the conditions that the workers of the time found themselves in, George sought to bring light and peace and a place where the soul could be nurtured. This story presents his fight to help people see that above the smoke of the factories and foundries, the stars were still shining.

This play is commissioned by YMCA and created by Saltmine Trust. A must for anyone with an interest in social history. YMCA Liverpool, YMCA St Helens and YMCA Wirral are working in partnership to bring this event to the city region.

This is a free event and all are welcome to attend. Book online here.
